Car Show/Consumer Advocacy

Filed under: Guerrilla MKTG, Random — Robert John Ed @ 1:39 am

This last weekend I went to a really cool event, Eurowerks 2008. I’m not a huge car fanatic, but when I’m not on my bike, I dig the Euros. I drive a 1999 Saab 9-3. It owns. I have to admit I may go to something like this under normal circumstances, but my friend Jess and her husband Kris were putting it on. They actually run a wedding photography company, Clewell Photography (btw this is a cool site, despite the flash interface which I don’t usually dig, check it).

Anyway, it altered my perspective on car shows. Many of these cars are unbelievable. Honestly, it made me want to buy a new car. So it’s probably best I stay away from these kind of things for the betterment of my bank account. As for marketing, this is what EVERY marketer on the planet is hoping to achieve with people that interact with or advocate their brands:

Volkswagon, Audi, and Bavarian Motor Works were all well represented. There was one Lambo, a few Saabs, and a couple other brands too.

The question is how these brands cultivated such devotion in their fans? Was it the product? The brand experience? I really don’t know. But I’m almost positive this kind of brand advocacy can’t be contrived, manipulated or devised by a bunch of old white men in suits. It’s the result of something much more real.

Here are some pictures (I need to get a photo editing software, so bare with me):

  4. Thanks for putting it on Jess. Totally fun.

Thanks for the link Andy, I’m not positive I have the time to get heavily involved in the forum…but I’ll give it a shot.
