So close. Still debating whether or not to buy the new iPhone.

My plan right now hovers around $50. New plan would cost around $85. Plus the $318.45 (w/ taxes) for the 16G version. Ouch. That means I’m spending $2,358.45 on a phone over two years. Equal to $98.27 a month.

I have to figure out my financial situation with school loans and everything else before I can make a decision. My impulsive consumerist attitude is pushing me though. I’m looking at two new apartments tonight, both with pretty far ranging price points, so after I figure that out maybe I can make a decision.

Any advice you have is certainly wanted.

  1. I’m not sure deciding to buy an iPhone is entirely rational or price-specific. I waited in line last year to get the first iPhone. I’ll do the same (but probably wait until the evening) on Friday. For me, it’s about access to functionality, and the ability to try new things. The iPhone is definitely pricey. But it also supplies a wonderful experience. I think the costs are worth carrying at this point.

  2. Get one. I am. How will people know you’re cool if you don’t have the newest gadgets? And now that it’s somewhat more in my price-range, I have no excuses. Who wants to fumble around with an iPod and an iPhone and…well, this sketch pretty much sums up how I feel:

  3. @Tim, I hear you. Under normal circumstances, I’d be all over this. One problem is that I’m going to school full time and so financial stuff is a bit more of a concern for me. Yet…I’m not sure I can get away from this one.

    @Andrea, luls.

    Thanks for the input…I have a feeling I’ll be ponying up the dough, sooner or later.

  4. Think of it as a good investment; you can…uh…pay your bills online wherever you are!

  5. Bob, i have wanted one of these babies for a while now, but I am under t-mobile contract until November. I hear negotiations are soon up between ATT and Apple (they only signed a 2 year deal). Who knows what could become of other carriers and the iphone? I guess I will wait and see.

    As far as cost goes, remember that you are already spending $1,200 every two years for your phone now (plus what ever it cost to buy…most around $200 from my experience) so deduct that from the iphone total and then weigh the technology vs the expense.

  6. Grahambo-

    I’m pretty much sold on this thing now. I only have to wait for the financial situation to become more clear now. Excited, I am.
