Leadership Potential

Filed under: Emo (EQ), Personal Branding — Robert John Ed @ 12:36 pm

Yesterday I headed into school to finalize some work.  The MBA program starts August 11th and I have a lot to take care of beforehand.  International studies, commuting, informational interviews, initializing the career search, etc.  There is a lot going on.

Two of the things I did yesterday were take Myers Briggs and an EQ assessment.  Previous to that I’d taken a leadership assessment.  Quite a few tests.

It makes me wonder how credible these assessments are.  I’m all for understanding my personality traits and developing them.  But how many people take these?  Is there a score that assumes you’ll be a great leader?  One that assumes you’ll be a serf?  I doubt it.  Additionally, I worry that scoring people as such tends to typecast them in others’ and their own minds.  You assume the world is flat because you’ve always been told that it’s flat.  There are some incredible minds out there that were never properly nourished and as such ended up decidedly choosing a meager diet.

We do have meetings to discuss these scores, next week and the week after; I’ll make note of those as they come.
